Two white men in a pick up truck drive in to a predominantly black neighborhood and gun down five black men killing three. The mayor of Tulsa this morning says there is no indication yet that this was a hate crime. So what is the motive then? What were these rednecks doing in that neighborhood if the motive was not to kill random black people? One of the shooters had posted racial slurs on his facebook page stating that his father had been shot by a black man.

Cue the wacky right wing with their stories of white people being killed by black people just like they have done with the Trayvon Martin case. If the police can establish a motive like robbery, then I will say it's not a hate crime. I think these two should be treated like terrorists, just like the DC snipers should have. Here's hoping they get raped by black male after black male in prison.

Obama Comes to OKC as Politicians Skip Town
OKC was all abuzz this week with a visit by the President that had the local Sheraton so locked down that even good liberals like myself couldn't get within a block of it. But where was the welcome mat from the good leaders of OK? A president sleeping in OK for the first time in over 20 years is quite an event.
Mary Fallin, the ever crazy Governor, decided to continue on with her vaction in Puerto Rico, and the Lt Govenor stayed in DC for a conference. http://www.okgazette.com/oklahoma/article-14759-obama-snubbed.html
It's probably a good thing they didn't show up to greet the President since we all know how his encounter with the even crazier Jan Brewer ended.

I'm just happy that Fallin could take a break from drinking rum to get a shot in at Obama:
The fact of the matter is President Obama’s rhetoric is matched with a policy record that is aggressively anti-energy and continues to stifle economic growth in Oklahoma and throughout the nation. The president urgently needs to reexamine his policies, not deliver more speeches taking credit for the accomplishments of others.

Guest Blog: A Visitor in OKC!
Over the summer I was thrilled to host my old college roomie Maria for some adventure here in OKC. From watching bull riding to cruising down 66, we had a great time despite the ridiculous heat. The heat, my god, the heat!
Maria was kind enough to share her experience as an OKC outsider, visiting for the first time:
As I sit here on Super Bowl Sunday waiting for my brie to finish baking (I know, brie and football don’t seem to mix, but it IS Connecticut after all), it occurred to me that the blog post I promised to write after my visit to OKC nearly a year ago never came to fruition.
So, here is my long overdue list of:
The Top Ten Things I Learned While Visiting Oklahoma City:
10. The price of cowboy boots is competitive with that of the latest pair of Christian Louboutins
9. Saddleries exist in the year 2012 (btw, MS Word sees saddlery and all of its variations as an error!)
8. Fried pickles are breaded, ranch dressing-dippable awesomeness
7. “Fixin’” has nothing to do with actually repairing anything
6. Dry heat still = F-‘ing hot!!
4. There is a National Banjo Museum and yes, it pays homage to both “The Rainbow Connection” and “Deliverance”
3. Viewing the OKC Memorial was one of the most moving moments in my life.
3. The best part about Route 66 is the song
2. The world’s greatest pickup line is, “I won 3 guns in a raffle last week”
And the Number One Thing I Learned While Visiting Oklahoma City:
When drinking beer at a nightclub, always keep it covered. Not so that someone won’t slip you a roofie, but so that a bull won’t kick mud into it My name is Maria and I live on the Connecticut shoreline. I do not wear madras from Lilly Pulitzer and I do not use the word “summer” as a verb.
